There are many things we can learn from tour professionals. They can help us with swing techniques, practice routines, and course management. Recently, I spotted another important take-away from the pros—and yes, it’s more important than avoiding a double bogey.
Take a look at this photo of Justin Thomas. Look carefully at his sleeve. Notice the message “WEAR SPF”.
A double bogey lasts for just one round. Skin cancer can affect a lifetime. Bringing SPF (sun protection factor) to the golf course needs to be as important as remembering to bring your putter. We have options. Creams and sprays are part of your arsenal. Hats (especially full-brimmed hats), shirts, and sun sleeves round out your protection. If you plan to play for years, plan to take advantage of all these.
Bottom Line: 1) Choose creams and sprays with a minimum of SPF60 and that specify “broad spectrum” (i.e., both UVA and UVB radiation). 2) Catching skin cancer early can make treatment simple. Plan to see a dermatologist regularly. 3) Invest in garments that have SPF ratings.
Each Thursday, we’ll bring you a helpful insight.
Swing to the Target,
Ed
