Almost as soon as a new golfer learns the difference between a putter and a driver, they learn that golf has its own etiquette.
Among all the sports, golf is unique in its extensive rules of etiquette. Our game stands apart in its regard for civility. We enjoy a culture that has never stooped to physical confrontations between competitors. On the contrary, it is a game that not only expects players to call penalties on themselves, it also expects them to rake sand traps, replace divots, and fix ball marks out of respect for other players and the beauty of the course. It is so central to golf that etiquette comprises the very first section of the official USGA Rules Of Golf
Scoring well is one aspect of playing well, etiquette is another. I’m not sure which is more appreciated by your golf partners.
Bottom Line: The only thing impressing your partners more than your well-struck 5-iron, is the respect they experience when exercising your golf etiquette.
